Kipling was found slumped over his desk at the Brown’s Hotel before being rushed to Middlesex Hospital where he died from a perforated ulcer.
Ironically, just weeks before he had autographed a copy of his novel, The Absent Minded Beggar, and given it to Brown’s head porter, telling him, “You take that home and lock it away until I am dead. It will be worth a lot of money.”
